Guinea
It has been a while since I have been in Guinea but the strong contact remains. There are more than 200 Lutheran churches in Guinea but only one ordained pastor. There are an additional five vicars. But the contact that I continue to have with Guinea is that each year more and more are sent to the seminary in Togo. It is very difficult as the seminary is in a different country and very far away. Yet the people are starving to hear the gospel. Of the more than 30 countries I have visited, Guinea faces the most struggles and has the least developed infrastructure.
The greatest request right now is more books and more teaching. An additional reason for so few pastors is because the education system is so poor that IF someone graduates from high school they will have about a 6th grade level of French. To add to the challenge is the fact that VERY few graduate from middle school much less high school. They really desire to have the catechism translated into their local language, Kissi. They would also like to have evangelists trained with a deeper foundation in Christian doctrine.
