Congo (Brazzaville)

In French speaking West Africa, so many Christians have been confused by hymns that seem to contradict the teaching of the pastor in the Sunday sermon.  This is because hymns teach.  The words are important and must be chosen carefully.

New Congregations

January 2010

Hymns are instrumental teaching tools

A Congolese rendition of the 23rd Psalm.

LSB 833, “Listen, God is Calling” that I translated as “Ecoute l’Appel de Dieu.”

A confirmand reciting Luther’s Small Catechism.

Yeah, it can still be done!

As a reward she got her own copy of the Holy Bible.  She went around telling everyone about the great gift.

As a result of a financial gift from a Christian lady in Finland, we were able to purchase several bibles for the member of the church.

It is no secret that the Congolese have some of the best singers in all of Africa.  Therefore ‘Lutherans in Africa’ has begun a program of recording Lutheran hymns sung by these brothers and sisters in the faith and sharing their beautiful voices with the other Christians in francophone West Africa so that they too may learn these hymns and recount the mighty deeds of our God and Savior.  If you would like to see and hear more hymns follow this link to our YouTube page - http://www.youtube.com/user/proliturgy

The founding congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Congo.  It was sad to see the government has tore up the street in front of the church and has ceased repairs for over one year.  Nevertheless, the church was packed on Sunday and I was blessed to be the guest preacher for the day.
